It's more or less a knee jerk reaction against a stagnant metagame in order to increase the number of options available.
If an update such as this actually was implemented, I'd give it a week before people were only using a few of the most powerful skills, and disregarding the rest.
The key to true balance is making everything viable, which is extremely hard, as to be impossible, at this point in in the game life of Guild Wars .

Balance is a continual process.

It should tell you something when the devs couldn't fix GW1, so they decided to make an entirely new game.
The dev's will throw peanuts at us in terms of game updates while we wait for GW2, but I'm not expecting a complete class overhaul. It would be too much effort on their behalf, and they're preoccupied with other things.

On a spike, the LoD is supposed to use PS>Patient spirit, which isn't too hard if you know how to pre-prot.

By the time you apply the SB and PS you need a heal as a follow up. A cover enchant that is too late on the heal is not something I look at as an advantage. The usual order is SB, SoD, or PS > GoH, RoF, Dissmiss or RC. Tell me why Patient spirit is a better choice. A cover enchant that heals just doesn't cut it.
Patient Spirit is really more of a good anti-pressure heal. The 1/4 cast allows you to apply it to a target then heal something else. Its more of a "set it and forget it" heal. Put it on a target that is slowly dropping health, heal someone else then come back to the orginal target if needed.
Its not very attractive to me vs a spike but in either situation there are better options even if its buffed.

I understand that but no one has yet to tell me what would you replace on the bar to use patient spirit. Keep in mind you can't target yourself either.
That's the point. Even if its buffed there are better options vs spike and pressure.
Its just a bad mechanic for a heal. It works very well for Ancestors' Rage because you can time it with spikes so the 1 sec delay is a benefit. Any delays on your healing is never a benefit.

You might wanna read Patient Spirit's description again.
Since you CAN target yourself.

RoF, the only problem with patient spirit imo, is that it doesnt heal for enough.

Doubling the DF bonus for Patient Spirit (a la Healing Touch) would be a start, IMO.

The thing is that Patient Spirit is actually a pretty good concept for a skill. Make it so that when correctly used, Patient Spirit is a very energy effective heal.

If DF was enough of an initial heal it would be on everyone's bar right now. If you increase the heal you must ask yourself is it too strong to remain a self targeting 1/4 cast heal? If you increase the cast it becomes very unattractive. Cost cannot move above 5e. Recharge is the only thing you could really change and leave it as self targeting.
You still have not explained what you would take off the current monk bars to use Patient Spirit. Give me a monk bar that is not gimpped by Patient.
Until then its pretty much a dead horse.

He already said RoF earlier when you were asking the same question.
Patient spirit is probably the best concept of a healing skill since LoD. Shame the heal is so little. Does not need an initial heal, but a bigger one at the end imo.

Or patient spirit just needs to trigger if the target takes enough damage. Make it like a spirit bond that only triggers once.

I saw a couple guilds trying it with Healer's Boon, only problem then is that Heal Party is still really expensive. Not sure how it played out, only one I saw to completion won when the other team had a drop, so...
